Don't panic! Here's what to do if your car is stuck in the snow.

calling for help after car is stuck in the snow

There are several things you can do right now to get your car out of the snow and rolling again. First, for those who aren't in a hurry, we'll cover the DIY method. If you are in a hurry though and need your car winched out of a ditch or towed out of the snow right now, call our 24/7 service line at (204) 900-0553. We can get your car freed no matter how stuck it is. Now, we'll cover the DIY method.

The first thing you should do if you have the option is put your car in 4-wheel drive. There's a good chance your car is stuck not because of the snow but because the rear tires aren't getting any traction on the ice. If this is the case, you can sprinkle road salt or cat litter around your tires which will melt the ice and add traction. If there is a lot of snow around the vehicle, this should be cleared first with shovels. You can also lay out boards across the snow for your tires to roll on, which will add even more traction and prevent your car from sinking in the snow again the moment it lurches out of its current position. Think of the boards as snowshoes for your car. This method also works in mud, and there are specialty designed boards made of plastic you can buy especially for this job, but spare planks of wood will work fine. This DIY method might take time as you need to keep trying and wait for the ice under your tires to melt.

That was the DIY method. Again, if you're in a hurry and don't have time to do all this work yourself, we have tow truck operators available 24/7 to assist you, and you'll often see us winching cars out of the snow on the side of the highway all winter long. Whether you car is simply buried in snow or you crashed into a snow bank, or emergency towing service is here when you need it.

All the best, and happy holidays from your friendly local towing guys!
